The Engineering Research Centre of the School of Engineering https://engineering.research.southwales.ac.uk/ is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant specializing on digital platforms for enhanced learning.

This position is based at School of Engineering, of the University of South Wales. The successful candidate will be required to design Network Models for 6G coverage-capacity optimization in 3D urban environments. In addition, the candidate will prepare draft technical reports based on the research findings. This will require a background in mobile/digital communications and mathematics for engineering. The researcher will be a Doctoral Candidate and member of the EWOC (Efficient optical and wireless convergence for beyond 5G networks)(2022-2026)(101073265) project, an International Doctoral Training Network that aims to provide research and professional training. The post will require international travel and enrollment within a PhD degree program at USW.

Responsible for

Undertaking studies on 3D Network Modelling for 6G

 

Job purpose

 

Design of Networking Models for 6G coverage-capacity optimization in 3D urban environments, including analytical characterization and Monte Carlo methods

 

Key responsibilities

 

  1. To undertake supervised research which includes designing 3D Network models for 6G systems harnessing probabilistic tools and system level simulations.
  2. Participation in international research training networks, that includes the Horizon Europe program (EWOC)
  3. To undertake continuous personal and professional development which contributes to knowledge and skills within the subject area as part of the EWOC training program
  4. Participation in international conference events for disseminating scientific work
  5. Preparation of deliverable reports, and presentation of information to research groups, steering groups, etc. - particularly progress reports
  6. To write up own work and results of personal research
  7. To analyse and interpret results of own research, making use of standard research methods and techniques
  8. To assist, as required in the supervision of student projects as part of research training
  9. To support other research staff, e.g. academic staff, Research Fellows, Principal Investigators, in the furtherance of their research and of specific projects

Person specification

 

To be able to undertake this role effectively you will need the key attributes and skills outlined below. When completing your application ensure you demonstrate how you meet these criteria.

Bachelor´s degree (2:1)/Master’s degree in the areas of Telecommunications and/or Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Physics Engineering or equivalent degrees

 

Ability to demonstrate fundamental knowledge in Mobile/Wireless networking, Mathematic for Engineering, and Software Design

Ability to innovate. Any relevant publication experience will be considered an advantage

Independent drafting of scientific reports

4

Experience in Matlab modeling, knowledge of C/C++ or Python

5

Ability to work independently in a typical research engineering laboratory

Good organisational skills

Ability to work as part of a team

The candidates are eligible if they have not resided in the United Kingdom for more than 12 months within the period of the past 3 years (UKRI/MSCA eligibility requirement)

Language requirements for non-native English speakers are IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in every skills category.
