Dear all,

This Monday we will have the following talk:

Speakers: Chris Wood and Tim Shaw

Title: Artists in residence: Sound art & technology - Hackaton invitation

Abstract:
At this presentation two experienced sound artists - Chris Wood and Tim Shaw - will talk about their individual work with a focus on the technology they are using. They will also present a proposal for a two-day art & technology collaboration project ('hackaton') which will take place during the following weekend (May 18th/19th) - anyone capable in art and/or technology is invited to participate.
The artists are visiting Madeira and M-ITI as part of their 'artist residencies' at Pedra Sina Residence (www.pedrasina.org). At the presentation the organization will be introduced by its initiator, Søren Jakobsen.

Bio:
Chris Wood is a sound artist, engineer and producer. His work seeks to interrogate the relationship between narrative, space and audience. His interactive and multi-channel installations and performances deconstruct hierarchies of meaning in space and storytelling, rebuilding them into new, more open shapes. He has contributed music and sound design to work for BBC World Service, Icelandair and Hackney Hear, a GPS-driven narrative environment which won the innovation category at Prix Europa Radio Awards 2012. For more information and for examples of work see http://wordthecat.com.
Tim Shaw was born in Cumbria in November 1987. Raised by musical parents, as a child he was encouraged to play many different instruments including Piano, Violin and Guitar. Tim found his real love to be Guitar and, after playing and writing in many bands, he was picked to study an National Diploma in Music Performance at Carlisle Institute of the Arts. He performs regularly as an electronic artist and has worked internationally as a DJ. His new project 'Ocelot' involves working with multi instrumentalist Jeramy Bradfield, performing Live electronic music using a variety of platforms.
